Two billiard balls of equal mass m collide elas-tically as shown in the diagram. Initially the 13 ball has speed v and the 9 ball is at rest. After the collision the 13 ball has speed 1/2 v and the 9 ball has speed vf . What is vf ?

For 1D collisions of similar objects of equal masses and with one at rest, the initial velocity for objecting one will equal the final velocity of object 2. So the final velocity of ball 9 should be "v".
