Hey Morgan! The hydrogens attached to the carbon atom that is adjacent to the functional group are called "Alpha hydrogens". Similarly, the hydrogens attached to carbon atom(s) that is next to alpha carbon(s) are "beta-hydrogens". The examples in the figure below would be helpful to review:enter image description here
