Can you reduce spectator ions so that one side of the equation has a smaller coefficient but is canceled on the other side? Or does the spectator ion rule only apply when they are equal in quantity?

Hi here is what I am working on: the molecular equation reads: Cu(s) + 4HNO3(aq)---> 2NO2(g) + 2H20(l) + Cu(NO3)2 (aq) so the total ionic eqn: Cu (s) + 4H (aq) + 4N^3- (aq) + 12O^2- (aq)-----------------> 2NO2 (g)+2H2O (l)+Cu^2+(aq)+2N^3-(aq)+6O^2-(aq) can I reduce it further to: Cu(s)+4H(aq)+2N^3-(aq)+12O^2-(aq)-------------------> 2NO2(g)+2H2O(l)+Cu^2+ (aq) ?
