AlCl3 ---- Nonpolar molecule with polar bonds

OF2 ------ Polar molecule with polar bonds (very slightly polar)

XeCl4 ----Nonpolar molecule with polar bonds

TeCl6 ---- Nonpolar molecule with polar bonds

HCF3 ---- Polar molecule with polar bonds

SO4(2-) ---- Nonpolar molecule with polar bonds

NO3(-) -----Polar molecule with polar bonds

  • Thank you so much wendy commented 12 months ago
  • But why isn't CF4 Nonpolar with nonpolar bonds? wendy commented 12 months ago
  • The electronegativity difference between F and C is more than 0.4. 4(F)-2.1(C)=1.9 so it is quite high. Hence, the bond is polar Nika commented 12 months ago
  • Again to clarify: if you want to determine if the molecule is polar or not you should draw the lewis structure and see if dipole moments cancel or not. If cancel it is nonpolar. If the do not cancel the molecule is polar. If you want to determine if the bond is polar you should use the elecronegativity values of each element . You are welcome by the way :).
