Official course description: The course covers specific topics on the structure and function of eukaryotic cells. The first half of the course includes an analysis of the function of membrane bound organelles (especially the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and lysosomes). Protein targeting to these organelles is examined in detail. The second half covers muscle and actin-based non-muscle motility, cilia and other microtubule-based movements, and ends with the regulation of the cell cycle and growth control. The course emphasizes the experimental basis for our understanding of organelle function and regulatory events.
