Alright. So we're now going to go ahead and figure out the conjugate base of NH3, okay? An in order to make that a little bit easier for ourselves we're going to go ahead and draw out the Lewis structure first, so what's going to go in the middle? Our nitrogen, right? Because they can make the most bonds. So, our nitrogen is going to be in the middle and then we say that we've got our hydrogen's here, here, let's go ahead and actually draw it a little bit more accurately, so we have our nitrogens here, here and then here. we know, we've got the bond between each of them and then, what are we missing? We're missing our lone pair on our nitrogen, right?, okay? So let's say somebody comes in and deprotonates that nitrogen, okay? Removes one of these hydrogen's, let's call it, I'm just going to say B negative, okay? For Base something, okay I'm going to come in and grab this hydrogen and kick electrons onto that N, okay? This part is just extra, this is just a mechanism, how it works, okay? But now our conjugate base is just going to be the deprotonated version of this, so we're going to have a nitrogen, I'm going to go ahead and draw it in pretty much the same configuration and H, right? We've still got our first lone pair up here, but now we've got a new lone pair down here, okay? So we've got two lone pairs and then we got our negative charge on our nitrogen. Now, we know it's got a negative charge because of our bonding preferences, right? We know that nitrogen is in what group? it's in group five, right? So, group number, minus sticks plus dots, right? in parenthesis, so it's going to be group number five minus, how many sticks do we have? two, and how many dots do we have? 4, so it's 2 plus 4, right? Plus 5 minus 6 total, that's going to give us a negative 1 charge, okay? So, our nitrogen here has a negative charge because it's got two hydrogen's, it's got two bonds and two lone pairs giving it a negative charge, alright?
