Hey guys, so in this problem we need to go ahead and convert the condensed formula for ethanol or CH3CH2OH into Lewis dot structure, okay? So guys, what do we know about this? Well, we also, we know that our two carbons are connected to each other, right? So we should expect to see carbon, carbon and we also know that our OH is one group, right? And that's connected to this carbon here, so we should expect to have an O and an H here. Remember that from in Gen chem we learned that all of these need to have two electrons between them to form the bond, right? So we know we need to have electrons there, there and there, right? I'm missing something now, right? I'm missing five hydrogens, these five hydrogens, right? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and we know that we have 3 hydrogens connected to the first carbon and two carbons, two hydrogens connected to the second carbon, right? And we know that we need to have 2 electrons between each atom to have a bond, so we should expect to see this and now let's go ahead and make sure that we have our octets filled for all of them, right? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 perfect 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 great 1, 2, 3, 4 there's something missing, right? Definitely, our two lone pairs and our oxygen, right? And guys remember that hydrogen only likes to have two electrons in its shell. Alright guys, so that's it, that's our Lewis dot structure, let's move on to the next question.
