Carry out the following conversion: (c) 8.75 μm/s to km/hr
Okay guys so in this question we want to convert 8.75 micrometers per second to kilometres per hour. We're first going to convert micrometers to kilometres and then we are going to convert seconds to hours. So we have 8.75 micrometers per seconds, to convert micrometers to kilometres we first need to convert through the base unit of meters. So we're going from micrometers to meters we put micrometers on the bottom to be able to cancel out the units, 1 is placed wherever there's a prefix and we know that micro is 10 to the negative 6.
Now to convert from meters to kilometres we have 1 kilometre and the kilo is 10 to the 3. So now we're able to cancel out meters and on the top we have kilometres which is exactly what we're looking for. Next step is to convert seconds to hours, so we know that for every minute we have 60 seconds and we want to put seconds on the top to be able to cancel it out and we know that for every 1 hour we have 60 minutes. So now we can cancel out minutes with minutes and on the bottom we're left with the unit of hours, which is once again what we're looking for. So multiply everything on the top and divide by everything on the bottom and your answer should be 3.15 times 10 to the negative 5 kilometres per hour. So once again we want to cancel out all the units to get the desired units in the correct positions and that exactly what we did here. See you guys soon.
