Convert:

b. 3.14 kg to g

Hey guys, in this question we're asked to perform a metric prefix conversion so they give us 3.14 kilograms and we have to change it into grams. Now here we need to realize that kilo is a metric prefix and once we remove the kilograms the kilo from kilograms we're left with grams, so grams represents our base unit, now you can go from the metric prefix to the base unit in one step, so we're going to have 3.14 kilograms we want to get rid of kilograms so kilograms goes on the bottom grams goes on the top, remember that 1 is associated with the metric prefix so 1 kilo is 10^3, so when we punch that it that gives us 3.14x10^3 grams, Now the number they gave us initially 3.14 has a decimal point so we go left to right, our first non-zero number is the 3 once you start counting you have to count all the way through until the end so we have 1 2 3 significant figures which means my answer at the end also has to have 3 significant figures so 3.14x10^3 has 3 sig figs and that will be our answer at the end.
