Round each number to four significant figures.
Hey guys, in this question we're asked to figure out each of these numbers to 4 significant figures so let's take a look at the first ones, so we have to go to 4 significant figures so we're looking at these 4 digits here now this 8 we have to determine does it stay 8 or does it get rounded up to 9? How do we determine that? We look at the number to the right of it, there's a 5 here so because it's 5 or higher that means I'm going to around that 8 up to 9 so remember rounding is just something we should all be familiar with basic algebra basic math so when it's less than 4 then....When it's less than 5 we don't round up but if it's 5 or higher we do round up so again we're looking at these 4 digits here the number to the right is a 4, remember it has to be 5 or higher for us to round 8 up to 9 since it's not 5 or higher it's stays 156.8, look at these 4 here again it's just a four so again we can't round up so it's just 156.8, look at these 4 here because we want for 6 figs it's a 9 here which means we're going to have to round that 8 up to 9 so this becomes 156.9. So again, if it's 5 or higher we round up if it's not we keep the number as it is we don't round up.
