The phase changes of vaporization and fusion can be used to calculate changes in your entropy

The Entropy of Liquids

Concept #1: The liquid phase serves as the foundational state to study the impact of phase changes on entropy.

Example #1: Methanol has a normal melting point of 64.7ºC and entropy of fusion of 9.36 J/K. Determine its enthalpy of fusion.

Practice: Calculate entropy of vaporization of 8.4 g of acetic acid (CH3COOH) with a boiling point of 118 °C, ∆Hvap = 23.7 kJ/mol.
