The process of replication follows a purine-pyrimidine base pairing rule as to preserve the information contained in the genetic sequence. The purine bases are the adenine and guanine while the pyrimidine bases are thymine and cytosine. The base pairing follows A-T and G-C pairing. This means that each A in the parent strand should be paired to a complementary T, a T with and A, a G with a C and a C with a G.
