Allosteric regulation is a type of control mechanism in in which binding of a regulatory molecule at one site on a protein causes a change in its 3-D shape in such a way that the activity at another site on the protein is altered. This often operates in feedback inhibition of the first enzyme in a biosynthetic pathway by the end product of the pathway.
