Nonsense mutation is a mutation which changes a codon to stop codon. This will result for a functional protein sequence before the mutated codon while the codons after the mutated codon will no longer be functional due to the pre-termination of the protein sequence as the codon was change to stop codon. The pre-termination of the sequence leads to a shorter polypeptide chain than normal.
Both nonsense mutations and frameshift mutations can cause mutant proteins to be shorter than normal. Explain how the same general type of effect on protein structure is caused by these two different types of mutations.
