FREE Expert Solution

The preparatory stage of mitosis is known as Interphase. It plays an important role in mitosis as this phase prepares a cell for mitosis by producing proteins and duplicates the DNA.

There are three stages of interphase. They are the following:

  • G1 Phase – During this stage, the cell grows double its original size and the volume of the cytoplasm increases. Protein synthesis also takes place and more organelles are produced. If the cell is not to divide again, it will enter G0. However, it will continue to divide, the cell will proceed to S phase.
